Photos Duplicate Cleaner App Reviews

Wonderful app, very useful with small issues

This app helps you to get rid of duplicate images. It scans folders, even multiple folders, for duplicate images and shows them in groups for selecting the ones to delete. It also offers a routine for automativ selection which is very useful if you have very large amounts of images. Sadly there is an issue if the amount of images is very high and you want to pick the images to delete manually. In this case the app sometimes crashes and all selections are gone because when restarting the app it has to rescan the selected folder(s). Fortunately the scanning and comparing of the images is very fast so you don’t have to wait ages for the results to appear. The translation of the app into the german language is very poor but it is usable.

Did just what I wanted it to do

Great app? Cleaned up my collection of photos in a matter of minutes!

just what I was looking for!

removed hundreds of duplicates very quickly.

I like it when something does one thing well

So far 100% foolproof; I recently collected my photos from a dozen drives onto a single server, and ran this program. It worked perfectly, and cleared out a mountain of duplicates (19GB!). Yay for stuff that does what it says it does!

Almost perfect

The app is great but I think it would be helpful to view the paths that each dupe is located under the thumbnail. Itll help to decide which image needs to be deleted. And I think it also lacks searching for the same image file but with a different name.

Just scans file names...

This app just scanned files names and brought up exact matches, and it was kind of useless. You could just copy and paste your photos into the same folder and all files with the same name would be replaced by each other. Scaning file names is only useful if it scans for common duplicate number sequences too: (1), (2), (3), / 1, 2 ,3 / etc.

Photos Duplicate Cleaner

App worked great. Cleared more than 1400 duplicates. It doesnt go to iPhoto by default so you have to look around. Got a bit frustrateing at first but ended up working great. Easy to install.

Photos Duplicate Cleaner

Had extreme difficulty removing duplicate photos on “iPhoto” on my “iMac”. Used Photos Duplicate Cleaner and successfully removed 14,496 duplicate photos, freeing up 25.1 GB of Space. This success was done on my my very first attempt, so I am highly recommending this program. Thanks, Ray H Smith

Great app

I really looked at this app and finally got around to using it. I knew that I had many dupe pics but no idea on how many I had. I ran it a few times and didnt find many dupes, but after selecting ‘users’ folder….was surprised…found over 1 gig of dupes (more that 900 dupe pics. Great app……when you only have limited space on the SSD…it helps a lot.

Great App

It does what it says perfectly.

simple and worked

After 10 years of photo storing i decided to consolidate. I had 8 iphoto albums on external hard drive and 20 photo folders which contained some photos that were in the iphoto albums. WHat a mess!….So i had to go into each iphoto album and “EXPORT” the photos into a photo folder. Once this was done I deleted all iphoto albums. I then took the 28 Photo folders and placed them into a single folder. I then had to copy that folder to my desktop. Then I ran this program on that massive folder and it found over 500 duplicates. I dragged the master folder into a NEW iphoto library and now i have one single iphoto library with no duplicates. FINALLY>>>>>

Magnificent

Used a number of duplicate finders in the past. Most were slow, clunky and flipped up errors like the feathers on a wind blwn rooster. This one however, is slick.

Don’t waste your time

This is not a real duplicate finder, it will not compare the actual content of the pictures, just file names ( I guess). So if you have the same picture, say different sizes, or different file names, it will not find them… useless.

Does not work against iPhoto library

This application can only work against folders accessible via Finder. This means it cannot access your iPhoto library folders. The program does work as advertised, but some people may be unaware that it wont help remove duplicates from iPhoto. Edit (June 2014): In response to the review by Bixter - Good luck getting your average Mac user to figure out exactly where they’ll find their photos within the iPhoto Library package and not screw it up. A much better photo duplicate remover that actually understand iPhoto without having to mess around with package contents is Duplifinder, by Haystack Software.

hmmmm

I was disappointed when I followed the advice of the user named The Bixter by going to Users-Pictures-iPhoto Library but I couldnt right click on iPhoto Library to open "show package contents" as iPhoto Library is not highlighted, it was in shadow so I couldnt highlight it myself or right click it at all. So I went to Finder to even see if I could find a show package contents button and found the path this user had said to do. it worked only becasue iPhoto Library was NOT in shadow but what good does that do? In the cleaner app that path is unavailable to me. What good is a cleaner if you cant get it to clean where you want it to clean? *sigh* Ok. so after that unsuccessful path, I found a new path. It may prove a bit more tedious for some but at least it worked for me and it was quite quick. FIRST open your new cleaner app SECOND click the Select Folder and Scan Duplicates Now button. THIRD select your user which is whatever you named your computer, it will be the VERY top name on your list, just highlight it and press open. I didnt have very many duplicates so it only freed up 1.8Mb of space (lol) but at least it worked.

THANK YOU!!

Hundreds of duplicate files were cluttering up my hard drive. Thank you so much for the superb and easy to use app!!!!

Easy and Awesome

Cleaned within seconds. Only thing is that you need to move photos into a folder on your desktop. The app then will delete all the duplicates from that folder from your system! Works just as advertised

Cannot open iPhoto package from within app

As others have pointed out, it is impossible to open the iPhoto package within this program, by right clicking>Show Package Contents. The iPhoto package is greyed out and therefore inaccessible from the app. Not sure what Bixter is on about. You can do this in Finder of course, and yes all your iPhoto folders are there, but that’s hardly relevant.

Doesn’t find all

I scanned a big folder full of photos and it only found 2 duplicates while I manually browsed and found 10+.

Save a lot of space

Wow this app work so well and i don’t even know i have those double photo! i don’t even know i have a computer ! HiHiHiHi ! Nice Job!
