Photos Duplicate Cleaner App Reviews

Love this app

This is one of the best duplicate photo apps that I have used. A+++++++++++++++

will not do the job

i will go blunt about it: this app didnt find a single, not even one duplicate picture in my folder, which has over 2k pictures and I know for a fact, about 400 of those are duplicates. Sorry.

Doesn’t work

I tried this and it does not work; the Duplicate Marked Photos folder is empty. Why?

Worked Like a Champ

It easily helped me clear out over 1,000 duplicate photos in about 10 minutes. It saved hours of tedious parsing on my part.

Works great

When people say it doesn’t delete anything, I think the problem people are having is that they have iPhoto AND Photos Libraries. When you have both, you have to delete the images from both libraries for it to actually be removed from your hard drive. Just remove your old iPhoto Library and it works great.

Not working—possibly a scam

I read through the Customer Ratings and despite the numerous reviews indicating the non-functionality of the app, I decided to give it a try. On screen, the app appears to work flawlessly. It has a wonderful interface. The problem is after going through the well-documented process, no photos are actually deleted. I called the customer service number twice. On both occasions, I had a very similar ‘scripted’ experience. I was requested to provide some personal information. I was then asked to go through the steps I took. I was told everything I did was correct. At this point, I was apprised that I need to download a companion application that would grant the technician access to my computer. I refused. The customer service reps got very pushy. Both times, I was told I wouldn’t be able to get the app working unless I granted access. Again, I refused. The second time around I was also escalted to a “Senior Technician” who went through the steps outlined above. This individual, however, got very aggressive—even nasty—when I refused to grant access to my computer. This appears to be a scam.

Surprised how easy it worked

I followed the easy instructions and 2099 duplicates very easily deleted Never thought it would be this easy.

does what it is supposed to do

happy

does the trick

Works as advertised as long as you follow the somewhat convouted instructions. This means creating an album in Photos to hold the pictures that will be deleted and then sorting through them in the app. It’s not hard. I cleared up 600 dupes in 20 minutes. I just wish it could magically delete all the junky photos in my library :)

Seems to work

I read some of the reviews saying it didn’t work, but gave it a try anyhow. As near as I can tell, it seems to have done the job. It identified over 1 GB in duplicate files, I compared a few, verified that they were truly dups in different folders, let it move them to the trash, saw them all in the trash, then emptied the trash. Seemed to work fine for me. Seems like one of those programs you’ll use once and be done with. There’s a paid version, but the free version seemed to work well enough for me.

Excellent Help

LIke the application a lot. Had a small problem and called the 855 number and got succinct accurate help. great outfit.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME

For an app that professes to be the #1 rated of its kind (aren’t they all?), this app is completely worthless. Not only does it take FOREVER to scan a library of any size (and believe me, my Photos library is not that massive), but AFTER the duplicates are found, it requires about a 12-step process “Click here, now do this, now click that, now open this, now highlight these…” to finally get rid of your duplicate photos. (Thanks to Apple’s “Photos” app for immediately adding the deleted photos right back, however.) The sore spot with me, however, is that I have Finder open on my desktop and I’m LOOKING at two photos that are the same…I know they are because I *made* them the same. Only difference: The copy of the original photo has an underscore at the end of the filename (i.e. picture003.jpg AND picture003_.jpg) They are identical photos, yet this app says “No duplicates found!” Not only are the duplicates that I purposely created in this folder, but I’m also looking at many other duplicates in the same folder. Different filenames, sizes, and resolutions, but identical photos. Even with the app Preferences set to include all these differences, the program continues to congratulate me for “No duplicates found!” When I’m sitting here looking at duplicate photos, and your software tries to congratulate me on “No duplicates found!” that means it’s time for this app to hit the Trash, and me to either do the work painstakingly by hand, or find a developer that actually knows how to write a program that actually does what it professes to. My advice: Stay away from this gawky, unseemly, non-functional falsehood that does nothing more than scan your folder then nag you to “Upgrade to PRO!” every 5 seconds. This app is free…and isn’t even worth THAT price.

Very decent product..

At first I was a bit leery after reading the reviews, but decided to give it a try. I am cheap and it is free so we were made for each other. I am not sure what the other low rated reviewers are talking about, I had now problem with this product at all. It did exactly what it said it would do. It found and successfully moved to the Trash bin, over 31GB of dupes on my Mac ( In between libraries at the moment ). I double checked it work being a little skiddish about an app deleting 8 years worth of pictures. I was pleasantly surprised, all those in my trash were in fact duplicates. ] I will and do recommend this product.

Does not work

no dupes were cleaned.

SO AWESOME!!!

I was super cautious about this app and others. But it just dropped 4gigs of spam photo duplicates without me having to do a thing! THANK YOU!

Works great and fast!

Scanned a library of 34,000 images in remarkably short time (on a brand new mid-range iMac) and identified duplicates, some with only one extra, some with multiples. From there, I used auto-select to select based on a rule set it offered but I could modify. Then I said to trash the duplicates. It walked me through steps of opening Photos, selecting All Photos, then it created an album with the extra images. It was ultimately my task to delete them at that point. Photos moves “deleted” images to a “recently deleted” album where they are kept for 30 days before being automatically deleted. It shows under each image how many days are remaining. So I would say it works as expected, does what it should, and was fast besides! I don’t know that it would find images that are different sizes or crops, but for a free app, it seems to do the job well and safely.

Cleaned 20,000 Pics

I just used this app with OS 10.9.5 to clean up 25,000+ pics on an external hard drive. The app was fast and accurate, removing over 15 GB of duplicated images. I have not used any other apps in the past, but I did compare this app with another photo-duplicate-app (DupeGuru) before making my initial clean-sweep. The other app took about 10 times as long to read my files and crashed before it finished. This app read my files and moved my files to the trash before the other one was even finished reading. I found out later that it did not catch all of my duplicates, but for a free and fast app, it peformed much better than I had even hoped.

Worst app for free

I didnt expect it to find all duplicates, but it should have at least found something. I have a library of 8000+ photos that is just about half duplicates and this app found none of them. so sad...

Helpful :D

This is very helpful!!!

Good Free App!

Can’t beat it for free :-) I’m currently trialing Gemini, Cisdem Duplicate Finder, Duplicate Finder and Remover, Photosweeper, and Duplicate Detective. So far this app is comperable to most of the paid apps. Photosweeper has the advantage of viewing files side by side along with easier navigation but it’s currently priced at $9.99 This app has above average navigation, speed and value. If you’re looking for something to get started this may just be the app for you. I’m working on removing duplicates from external backup drive and consilidating files. So my job is rather large and I still consider this app noteworthy.
